Farce: At Panetta hearing, Dems shift focus from Benghazi to sequestration

Outgoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta was on Capitol Hill today to testify before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Benghazi. But — shockingly — the focus quickly shifted away from Benghazigate and onto sequestration:

Discussion at Senate Armed Services #Benghazi hearing has turned to the sequester and its impacts on the Pentagon.

Because pushing a faulty budget deal is far more imperative than investigating the deaths of four Americans.

Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-WA): Sequestration was never written into law to go into effect.

Senate D’s plan to prospectively punt the sequester for three months and replace cuts with closing corporate loopholes and other revenues.

Panetta tells senators if sequesters hits, Pentagon would face significant shortfall in operating funds for active forces.

Panetta on sequester: This will badly damage our national defense and compromise our ability to respond to crises in a dangerous world.

— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) February 7, 2013

Panetta to senators on averting sequester & Pentagon cuts: I’ll support whatever package you can put together.

— Chad Pergram (@ChadPergram) February 7, 2013

If this hearing was designed to draw attention to government incompetence, mission accomplished. Instead of addressing the murders in Benghazi, the Democrats used this hearing as an opportunity to pressure Republicans into approving Obama’s crappy budget deal. Is this real life?

Oh, they are back on their favorite topic, sequestration thanks to Udall. Is this a budget hearing? Shameless. #Panetta

— Helle Dale (@Helledale) February 7, 2013

Panetta..WOW..What a Liar. You couldn’t get to Libya in an hour and a half and you say sequestration will ‘significantly’ impact us.

— Sylvia Djordevic (@syjere17) February 7, 2013

Why is Panetta pitching for budget and holding off sequestration?

— Capt Jack (@Piratearian) February 7, 2013

@carydc;Sequestration had not occurred yet during #Benghazi, #Panetta smoke, getting public focus off #BengahziGate

— Linda (@linda_solka) February 7, 2013
