It’s been unclear from the start exactly who Sen. Joe Lieberman’s (I-Conn.) target constituency was as he frustrated progressives by significantly weakening health reform legislation and then frustrated conservatives by supporting the eventual Senate bill.

Well, according to a new CNN poll, not many people. His favorable rating has dropped 9 points from early December, to 31 percent, as his unfavorable number has climbed 6 points, to 34 percent. His biggest decline — a 14-point drop — has been among independent voters.

This can’t be terribly reassuring for Lieberman if he hopes to run for reelection as an independent in 2012.
