The Associated Press reports that at an event in Wakarusa, Ind., President Obama today vowed to deliver health care reform by the end of 2009.
Obama on Wednesday visited hard-hit Indiana to announce $2.4 billion in taxpayer grants to create electric cars and tens of thousands of jobs. But he also pledged action on an ambitious health care overhaul that he argues would help stabilize the nation’s fiscal health.
Obama said: “I promise you, we will pass reform by the end of this year because the American people need it.”
Of course, with one bill already passed by the House Energy and Commerce Committee and two others being considered in the Senate — and conservatives and interest groups mobilizing against dramatic changes to the existing system — what that reform ultimately looks like is the million-dollar (or is it the trillion-dollar?) question.
